Personal

Hello my name is Thomas

As we jump into this new year I realize there are some new faces, new potential brides + grooms and families just discovering me. So I figured it might be a good idea to introduce myself.

Hi there! My name is Thomas but most call me by Tom or Tommy. I've lived the majority of my life in Orange County, with a little stint in Phoenix and about 4 years in Atlanta. I grew up listening to stories told my by Grandpa about life and WWII, he was such a huge influence in my life growing up that I wanted to study history in college. Today nothing has changed, I still love stories and I still love history it’s pretty much the reason why I'm so passionate about being a storyteller with my camera, it's such the perfect fit for me. I truly feel that it's my responsibility to my clients to document your story and to help create your legacy for your family. Having two kids myself I firmly believe family is everything!

Ok enough about the why and more about the who.
- I am an Americanized Filipino AKA a coconut (brown on the outside and white on the inside, LOL), that is mainly because of the city I grew up in, we were one of only a handful of Filipino families that lived there, but that doesn't mean I’m not in touch with my roots and where I came from. It's funny because it still trips my wife out when my mom speaks to me in Tagalog (Filipino Language) and I can understand her, bummer part is I can only reply back in english.
- On my 30th Birthday I did my first Triathlon, I continued to compete competitively for over 4 years, I was even the Newport Coast Triathlon Team President for 2 years until injury slowly drew me out of the sport, however I do want to make a return one day soon.
- I've known my wife Heather since she was a freshman in High School, we dated for a short time after she graduated which was two years after I graduated, today we've been married for over 6 years and have two amazing kids, Colton (4) and Rowan (11months).
- Family means the world to me as I mentioned earlier
- I love Ice Cream, but love French Fries even more, crazy I know...
- I'm kind of tech geek, I love me some technology for sure! Yeah I'm Apple Fan boy as well
- I have been to 11 countries and counting, NEED TO TRAVEL MORE PLEASE!
- Instagram addicted
- Coffee drinker (goes hand and hand being a photographer and all lol)
- I love all kinds of sports
- Music has my heart from hip hop to country, bring it!
- Last but not least, having God in my life has been the best and that will never change

Also, one other thing about me is that I also run another company photographing Architecture, Real Estate and Corporate work. You can view my work at www.tompellicer.com and my Instagram @tompellicerphoto

Anyways….I hope that helps you get a little more acquainted with me. Stay tuned for more information on who I am as a photographer

LATER 2016 and HELLO 2017

Who's ready for the new year? I am I am! In fact, I'm so ready to start making things happen that I'm already blogging my first post of the year and it's only Jan 2nd, LOL, last year I only wrote 6 blog posts total, crap I suck! But it's a new year and I'm so excited as this will be my 8th year of shooting full time, and only my 4th year as Thomas Pellicer Photographer. The cool thing is, that I feel I'm just hitting my stride with my direction and skill which I think is freaking awesome!

Each year I feel the urge to be a better blogger and post my shoots and talk about random sh*t. I don't know what it is, but I always have the intention to do better at it, BUT then always fade away. NOT this year! One of my goals is to actually make blogging a habit, make social media a focus and really utilize my voice online. I know blogging maybe a thing of the past for some photographers, but who cares I'm going to do it anyways. Just like printing a photo, it's always great just to see my work out there and what better place then on my website/blog/instagram. I'm also going to start talking about my processes, how I edit, why I edit the way I do, the gear I use and why I use it along with random photos and stories. I will also be updating my personal journal right here on my website as well. I know that sounds like a lot and trust me this will be a hard habit to get into, but I have the will to do it, I NEED to share my knowledge, share my photos and why I do the things I do. However here is my disclaimer, I'm not a great writer, YET. I proof read, but sometimes I overlook things because I honestly believe I may have some kind of reading issue, but I have not been professionally tested to know for sure. So when time permits, my wife proof reads and corrects my mistakes, I feel like I'm 10 years old. Anyways.....I enjoy writing so I'm just going to go for it!

So here we go....today, I wanted to share a few photos from our holiday photo session, this year we did a little something different. I did an exchange with a fellow photographer and friend, last year I shot her family photo and this year when she approached me, I threw the idea over her way and there ya have it. Carrie is a rad baby and kid photographer based in Yorba Linda, you can check out her site HERE she was so great with our kids. We had such an awesome time, thank you Carrie we really love our photos!

Edit: I did a re-edit based on my new direction, I actually liked the originals and we used them for our holiday cards, but since I'm making a change over here I thought I would add the new style to our photos, sorry Carrie. The edit did not come out exactly as I wanted due to the fact I was editing an already edited JPEG file (not the RAW file). But it still came out pretty cool. I already have a planned post on my new editing style coming soon.

Just arrived // Rowan Grace Pellicer

I proudly introduce to you our newest addition, Rowan Grace. She was born on Feb. 2nd (yes, Groundhog Day) at 1:43. For those old schoolers out there, 143 is the code used for "I love you."  The moment she arrived, I was instantly IN LOVE with her, love at first site. It was so cute, when she came out she immediately let out this little cry that melted the whole room including Heather's doctor, Dr. Cough.

I have to give it up to my wife, she absolutely kicked ass, I am so proud of her! I'm also so thankful and blessed she made the cutest little baby girl. Thanks my love, I am forever in your debt. You are amazing, I love you so much!

Here is a little summary about the day. We headed down to Saddleback Hospital at around 9ish, she was admitted in at 9:45. Upon arrival she was at 4cm and 100% effaced, once we were settled in and were waiting for the epidural, her water broke. When the Epidural finally arrived she was at 6cm. Since Heather's family was all down to support us and since it was going to take awhile we all left and got lunch at Ruby's across the street. About 45 mins after our return from lunch, Heather was like, "I think I need to start pushing." We told the RN and she confirmed she was at 10cm, and so it was on!!! Her Dr. arrived after about 10 hard pushes, she coached her for the next 30mins and BOOM, out came baby Rowan. The rest is history. She came out 19" long, 6 Ibs 5oz. and the cutest as could be.

On a side note, about a month ago the family decided to put a little wager on when she will be born. The guess had to include date and time. Out of 14 people, the big winner just happened to be my son, Colton. His guess believe it or not was Feb 2nd at 2pm. WTF??? Just 17mins off. So yup he won the cash, BTW he's 3.5 years old. Oh and for those wondering her due date was Feb 12. So she was born 10 days early, my son was born 9 days early.

We will be adding newborn pics soon, but for now I love these shots.

Maternity // My baby momma

As we enter the month of February my family will be embarking on some new territory. We will be adding a new addition to our little family, on the 12th we will be expecting our baby girl, Rowan Grace. It's going to be so different with a little girl since we've been so use to having our baby boy Colton in our lives for the past 3.5 years. It will be a good different, we seriously can't wait. BUT, as much as I want to go into it today, I will wait till she gets here to talk more about our experience. So for now, here is a quick maternity/family session we did last week.

Good Bye 2015 - Hello 2016

What a year it has been, I can't believe I will be completing my 6th year as a full time professional photographer and my 3rd year of going back on my own. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do each and every day. This "job" has taken me to places I never thought possible, it has introduced me to a ton of awesome people and it has challenged me in so many ways with the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Running this business all on my own has taught me to be very resilient, to take challenges head on and at times to step out of my comfort zone.

This year was no different, I focused on learning, evolving and honing my skills not only with my camera, but with running my business. Overall, I feel that I was successful, was I perfect? NO WAY! Do I feel I have room to grow and get/be better? HELL YEAH! So ending this year on a positive note, I say, "Good Bye 2015 and Hello 2016!" BUT before I say my goodbyes, I want to gratefully say, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all my clients, family and friends that have supported me not only this year, but throughout all my years in business, without you none of this would be possible. I want to specifically thank my own family for allowing me to chase this dream, to be away from you guys days on end is not easy I understand, so thank you for hanging in there and supporting me.

Like most of you, I too have goals for the new year, but no worries I'm not going to list them all out here. What I am going to mention is that I will be doing some serious changes over here, all of which was part of the learning and evolving processes I went through this past year. Some of the changes are going to be in the style I photograph weddings/portraits, how I use social media, how I run my business, the style of how I market my business and the big one hopefully bring on some hired help. My goal is to slowly introduce these changes right here on the blog and on my website. So please hang in there and stay tuned, I will have some down time in January so my hope is to blog a ton.

Things on my blog list for January and February:
- Past weddings
- Past portraits
- Best of 2015 weddings, couple, families
- Commercial work
- Working with my new FujiFilm camera system
- My evolving business and the changes ahead

Here's to an amazing 2016, hope to see you out there and have a great year!

Business aside, the image below is what I am MOST thankful for, 2015 was a great year for my growing family. Come Feb.12th we will be welcoming a new addition to our little family, her name will be Rowan Grace.
