Printing our Legacy

A year or so ago Epson put out a campaign called “Print Your Legacy” one of the photographers that was part of it was celebrity photographer and ALL around great guy Jeremy Cowart to help promote it. Prior to that campaign I purchased an Epson R3000 one of those big ass printers, I use it frequently to print smaller photos for clients. So when this campaign rolled out I was like HECK YEAH! I’m going to start printing way more aaaaand you guessed it, I didn’t print anymore than I was already printing before, slacker lol! Then a couple of months back I really got the urge to start printing again, but with the holiday family season going on full blast I seriously had VERY LIMITED office time to pursue it. Well, now that I have finally slowed down a little, I’m finishing up some business from last year and in the meantime, I’ve began printing some of my work as well as some personal family photos.

This year with the guidance of a friend of mine who also happens to be a kick ass a photographer, I plan on implementing selling prints. I have been feeling sort of let down by the fact that I have not been stressing how important it is to actually have prints made for my clients. This is coming from someone who’s generation grew up on printing photos, using printed photos in the actual albums, film cameras, etc, etc. and just loving the fact that I can physically hold on to that photo forever. With digital now, it’s so easy to keep them on your computer, cell phone or social media and pretty much do nothing with them beyond that. That’s cool and all, BUT honestly not really, people pay good money to hire a photographer to take photos of their wedding or family and then to do nothing with them, it’s a bummer actually. Most say, I will totally get them printed, but 90% of people don’t. TODAY, I want to get back to the old school method and join the select photographers out there who are pushing prints. I feel it’s my job as your photographer to help document your legacy and what better way to make it stand the test of time is to provide high quality professional prints, whether it be from your engagement, wedding or even family session it’s time I do my job. Yes, it will come with a price, Yes, this will not be for everyone I understand that, BUT for those that understand the importance of this they will find it to be priceless.

I don’t know where I heard this, but someone once said, “the only things that will help pass on your legacy to your future generations are from stories and photographs” if you think about it, it’s absolutely true! But if your photos live on a hard drive or cell phone only what will happen when you get a new computer or cell phone in 2-3 years then what? It’s time to start printing again people. Let’s do it, I PROMISE you will not be disappointed when you see those beautiful images of your wedding or family printed out, trust me, it will be way better then seeing them on a computer or phone. In the next few weeks I will be writing up a printing FAQ, but for now I just want to let you all know what direction my business is headed from this point on.

Blog fact: This is my 3rd blog post this year, last year in 2016 I blogged a total of 6 times. lol creating good habits…..

Ok peace for now, talk soon!

Good Bye 2015 - Hello 2016

What a year it has been, I can't believe I will be completing my 6th year as a full time professional photographer and my 3rd year of going back on my own. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do each and every day. This "job" has taken me to places I never thought possible, it has introduced me to a ton of awesome people and it has challenged me in so many ways with the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Running this business all on my own has taught me to be very resilient, to take challenges head on and at times to step out of my comfort zone.

This year was no different, I focused on learning, evolving and honing my skills not only with my camera, but with running my business. Overall, I feel that I was successful, was I perfect? NO WAY! Do I feel I have room to grow and get/be better? HELL YEAH! So ending this year on a positive note, I say, "Good Bye 2015 and Hello 2016!" BUT before I say my goodbyes, I want to gratefully say, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all my clients, family and friends that have supported me not only this year, but throughout all my years in business, without you none of this would be possible. I want to specifically thank my own family for allowing me to chase this dream, to be away from you guys days on end is not easy I understand, so thank you for hanging in there and supporting me.

Like most of you, I too have goals for the new year, but no worries I'm not going to list them all out here. What I am going to mention is that I will be doing some serious changes over here, all of which was part of the learning and evolving processes I went through this past year. Some of the changes are going to be in the style I photograph weddings/portraits, how I use social media, how I run my business, the style of how I market my business and the big one hopefully bring on some hired help. My goal is to slowly introduce these changes right here on the blog and on my website. So please hang in there and stay tuned, I will have some down time in January so my hope is to blog a ton.

Things on my blog list for January and February:
- Past weddings
- Past portraits
- Best of 2015 weddings, couple, families
- Commercial work
- Working with my new FujiFilm camera system
- My evolving business and the changes ahead

Here's to an amazing 2016, hope to see you out there and have a great year!

Business aside, the image below is what I am MOST thankful for, 2015 was a great year for my growing family. Come Feb.12th we will be welcoming a new addition to our little family, her name will be Rowan Grace.

Last week I had the honor of photographing once again the hosts of the HGTV show Flip or Flop. Instead of marketing photos this time I was there to document the announcement photos of their second child, a boy this time due in August. To my surprise, when I got to their house Christina mentioned to me that these images may be used in People Magazine, yikes NO PRESSURE! Lol Na it was all good, we had a great time and came out with some rad images of course, I mean have you seen their family?

This morning People Magazine online released an Exclusive interview check it out HERE plus I believe HGTV will use a couple of the images from the session. I couldn't be more excited for the family, they are seriously good peeps, super down to earth and great to work with for sure. Looking forward to working with them again :)

Blog schedule went out the window

In my attempt to get back to blogging I stumbled and failed miserably. I don't get how people can be consistent at blogging? Well, I guess if I was a good writer it might be different or if I got paid to blog. I have tons of topics and things to talk about trust me, I just can't find the time to sit and write about it. I even created a blog schedule, but that did me no good. I guess if I didn't have a lot to say then it wouldn't bother me that I wasn't blogging, but since I have tons to talk about I feel so far behind in my updates/posts. This is the reason I love Instagram so much, it's quick and easy to post pics and talk about things without getting all in depth.

So instead of blogging like 4 or 5 posts, let me just summarize a few things that have happened in the month of September (My Birthday month). A couple of these topics I think I will actually make a separate blog post about, but for now let me just mention them.

First - I'm super stoked to announce that I officially became an Adored Vendor on This is a huge step in my business, it's the first time that I'm stepping out into the wedding world in regard to advertising at a larger scale. I will definitely create a separate blog post about this, so stay tuned.

Second - Not only was I featured on, I was also featured on the blog, it featured a real engagement session that I shot earlier this year. See blog post HERE

Third - I celebrated my 29th birthday on the 9th, oh wait I mean my 39th birthday, shoot I still feel like 29 though...

Fourth - In the spirit of getting older, I decided that it was time to set some goals to get my ass back in shape, I will be turning 40 next year and I want to be in GREAT shape. So with the help of my family, they all chipped in and I got a brand new Felt TK3 bike, it's a 2013 model but it was still brand new. It's also a fixed gear bike meaning it only has one gear, but it looks like a triathlon bike. It's pretty rad if you ask me, lol. See picture below. More to come on this.

Five - We finally got rid of my old Honda Accord and now I drive my wife's BMW and she now drives a smaller SUV. This is huge because I was not a fan of that Honda period.

Six - If you are still reading this then I decided to extend my portrait sale till this Sunday the 5th. Yup so if you missed it now is the time to purchase it. Unfortunately I do not have any more free gifts to offer, sorry. See deal HERE

Ok I feel kind of better to get a little off my chest for now. I hope to follow up with some real blog posts soon.

Talk soon!

On the lookout for some rad people

If you happened to miss my previous post about updating my portfolio I recommend taking a minute to check it out HERE

OK, so now that you are up to speed, below is my wish list, I'm thinking big and praying for the best! If you happen to be interested in helping, know someone that would be interested, or just want to help me spread the word, I would be forever grateful and would do my best to give back to the best of my abilities. If you were looking to get into this industry, update your portfolio or just to get experience this is a perfect opportunity to do so.

Now here comes the hardest part of all this, since I won't have a budget to pay everyone for their time or supplies, I will have to make it up to you some how. So what I'm thinking, is what I can provide for all involved is experience, a great time, exposure via social media, networking with others involved, images for your portfolio and Instagram, work experience for your resume and free Starbucks, Monster/Rockstars drinks and food (if needed). In some cases, in return, the families involved will receive an album of images documenting what I have captured over time (more on this below).

So, if I still have your interest here is the list below....

Coordinator - This person will be vital to me, I need someone that is organized and not afraid to pick up the phone, needs to have a positive can do attitude and is a problem solver.

Lighting Assistant(s) - Preferably I would like someone with experience in lighting. A knowledge of strobes, modifiers and off camera flash would be awesome, but not necessary. The most important thing I'm looking for is someone aware of their surroundings and interested in helping me produce great images.

MUA (Makeup Artists) - I need someone also looking to rebuild or add to their portfolio, I want someone that is aware of what the shoot will require in regards to colors, tones and style. Experience is a major plus because we are limited on time, having someone that knows what they are doing is imperative so we don't waste time having to redo the makeup.

Hairstylist - Same goes with this position as well, experience is key

Stylist - This person would be a MAJOR PLUS period! Someone that knows what's up with each scenario we shoot would be so great. Fingers crossed finding this person :)

(2-4) Females - Ages 22-30 - Race - OPEN to all - must not be afraid of the camera, needs little direction during shoot, knows how to run with situations. A fan of America's Next Top Model, LOL, but I'm kinda serious. Tattoos are totally welcome and a plus, modeling experience not required. Must provide photo or IG name when applying.

(2-4) Males - Ages 22-30 - Race - OPEN to all - must not be afraid of the camera, athletic, fashion sense and cool. Slim to Average build preferred. Tattoos welcome, modeling experience not required. Must provide photo or IG name when applying

(2) Real Couples - 25-35 - Must be a real couple since I will ask for a little PDA in some of the shots. Must be fun and both be game for anything (PG of course). Also not afraid of the camera or need tons of direction, but can take direction if given. Must provide photo or IG account when applying

(2) Family - Younger, hip (not necessarily hipster) with 1-3 kids and perhaps a dog. Looking for an active family that loves to laugh, cry and be real. Also, a family that doesn't mind me following them around doing everyday things. One thing to keep in mind is that I am not looking for a family that is always posing for the camera or expecting to see posed shots. Must provide photo or IG name when applying and a little explanation to why I should choose your family. Please keep in mind this will be over 3-4 sessions.

The idea is to capture the family in real life situations, doing real life activities. Like going to Disneyland or the beach or hanging out at the park. I will explain more if anyone is interested in filling this spot.

This is a very important position for this whole process to work.  I want to document the majority of these shoots and would love someone capable of working a DSLR as a video camera. This would be great experience for someone wanting to practice story telling and for learning how to edit behind the scenes content. Having your own equipment will be necessary, I can provide a few items, but camera and lenses are needed and the ability to edit and turn around content quickly.

Also a few things that would be awesome is that each person involved must have 1) great attitude 2) fun personality 3) play well with others 4) MUST be on Instagram and have a decent following (100 or more)

Once I begin the interview process during our interview I will explain in more detail what each roll will entail. My goal is to have everyone lined up by the end of this month if not sooner.

Interested or know someone that may be interested?  Please feel free to share the link.

Thank you all so much and I look forward to getting this project in motion.
