LATER 2016 and HELLO 2017

Who's ready for the new year? I am I am! In fact, I'm so ready to start making things happen that I'm already blogging my first post of the year and it's only Jan 2nd, LOL, last year I only wrote 6 blog posts total, crap I suck! But it's a new year and I'm so excited as this will be my 8th year of shooting full time, and only my 4th year as Thomas Pellicer Photographer. The cool thing is, that I feel I'm just hitting my stride with my direction and skill which I think is freaking awesome!

Each year I feel the urge to be a better blogger and post my shoots and talk about random sh*t. I don't know what it is, but I always have the intention to do better at it, BUT then always fade away. NOT this year! One of my goals is to actually make blogging a habit, make social media a focus and really utilize my voice online. I know blogging maybe a thing of the past for some photographers, but who cares I'm going to do it anyways. Just like printing a photo, it's always great just to see my work out there and what better place then on my website/blog/instagram. I'm also going to start talking about my processes, how I edit, why I edit the way I do, the gear I use and why I use it along with random photos and stories. I will also be updating my personal journal right here on my website as well. I know that sounds like a lot and trust me this will be a hard habit to get into, but I have the will to do it, I NEED to share my knowledge, share my photos and why I do the things I do. However here is my disclaimer, I'm not a great writer, YET. I proof read, but sometimes I overlook things because I honestly believe I may have some kind of reading issue, but I have not been professionally tested to know for sure. So when time permits, my wife proof reads and corrects my mistakes, I feel like I'm 10 years old. Anyways.....I enjoy writing so I'm just going to go for it!

So here we, I wanted to share a few photos from our holiday photo session, this year we did a little something different. I did an exchange with a fellow photographer and friend, last year I shot her family photo and this year when she approached me, I threw the idea over her way and there ya have it. Carrie is a rad baby and kid photographer based in Yorba Linda, you can check out her site HERE she was so great with our kids. We had such an awesome time, thank you Carrie we really love our photos!

Edit: I did a re-edit based on my new direction, I actually liked the originals and we used them for our holiday cards, but since I'm making a change over here I thought I would add the new style to our photos, sorry Carrie. The edit did not come out exactly as I wanted due to the fact I was editing an already edited JPEG file (not the RAW file). But it still came out pretty cool. I already have a planned post on my new editing style coming soon.

Lincoln turns one

I can't even begin to tell you how much I adore this family. I've been documenting their moments since their engagement session over three years ago. It truly means the world to me to be there as my couples grow their family. When they asked me to take photos of Lincoln for his one year birthday I couldn't say no are you kidding me? How could I resist this little man?

Jumping into the New Year

Happy New Year! I can't believe we are 14 days into the New Year already....SAY WHAT??? It's all good, I'm happy to report things are starting to line up and my game plan is coming together for the year. But before I get all down and dirty and talk about my changes and new plans, I just wanted to get my first blog post out for the year. So instead of talking about business, I just want to talk about family.

The end of last year was absolutely nuts for me, I honestly had about 3 or 4 days off of work total from the end of October to January 1st. I'm very thankful for being that busy, my body was a little beat up, but it really took a toll on my family life. I barely saw them, which not only sucked for them, but it really was hard on me not to be able to spend time with them. I absolutely LOVE my family time and so it was a huge sacrifice. Thankfully I have an understanding wife and son that support me and so it made it a little easier to get through. Tell ya what, I was stoked when January 2nd rolled around because I took some much needed time off. Yup I was checked out, mentally and physically from my business and it felt amazing! Although, not going to lie, it was a little hard to go from full on work mode to doing nothing, but luckily I survived LOL. No, but honestly, the beauty of it all was the time I got to spend with them each day, it was truly priceless. We are all in a happier place these days. Thanks babe for hanging in there!

During that time off got me thinking....I really need to make more of an effort to devoting time for my family, we strayed from our dedicated family day towards the end of last year, so now I think it's time to start implementing that again. Come February we will are expecting our little girl to join the family, so having a schedule in place before she gets here will make things easier. One of my plans for this year is to bring on some help for my business, I mean for real this time. This should not only help run my business much more efficiently, but should allow time for me to hang with the fam, but more on this later.

I hope you are all off to an amazing 2016, take care and talk soon!

Here are some moments from our time at Boomers/mini golf on January 2nd.

Off to Texas // Pellegrino Family

Earlier this year I ran portrait special, shortly after I announced it I received a call from my friend Aimee. She gave me the low down of their close friends that fortunately and unfortunately were moving to Texas for work. As you will see, they have 5 kids and most of you know that involves of a LOT of friends from all ages. Needless to say, it's never fun having to move to a completely different part of the country after you have spent so much time building friendships.

Anyways...Aimee and a few of their friends pitched in and purchased a portrait special from me as a going away gift. All I can say is, priceless....The session was followed up with a HUGE going away party at a local park.

4 Days of blogging // Ninofranco Family

These past few months have been awesomely busy with holiday family portraits. I couldn't be more thankful to all families that have allowed me to photograph their family this year. I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to meet so many new families this year. As much as it's been nuts with shooting and editing, I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love what I do and continue to look forward to meeting new people as well as seeing my past families grow, more families to come so stay tuned...

Below is a new family that I just met this year, they are friends of my cousins and also friends with a few of my past clients (small world, but hey if your Filipino it's not that small, LOL). Although it was cold that day, you wouldn't be able to tell, they were all such troopers, good times! It turns out Joe and I have some mutual friend and he is in the wedding industry as well, he owns a DJ company called Audio FX DJs. So if you are need of wedding or event DJ hit him up.
